Choose for the environment people work in
A browser-based application can make access and deployment easier across devices. A desktop application can be appropriate where specialized hardware, local processing, or offline work is central. Neither model is automatically the right choice for every business.
Consider connectivity and devices
Identify where users work and what network access they can rely on. Offline behavior must be designed deliberately, including synchronization and conflict handling. Check printing, scanning, and device integration requirements early rather than treating them as finishing details.
Plan operations as well as features
Web applications usually centralize releases and backend operations. Desktop applications may require installation, version management, and support across individual machines. Both need authentication, data protection, monitoring, and a tested recovery approach.
Use a representative pilot
Test the most demanding workflow on real devices and realistic network conditions. Include the people who perform the work every day. A pilot helps reveal practical constraints that a feature comparison alone may miss.
